CONFESSION: I came very close to ordering washcloths from Amazon the other day. Washcloths, people!
Why did I almost order washcloths from Amazon? Our current supply is very low, the ones we do have were all dirty or had gone missing, and the almost instant gratification of pressing “order” and knowing a colorful stack of fluffy, clean washcloths would be on my doorstep within two days thanks to Prime was almost more than I could resist.
I did resist, however, and am happy to report I found clean washcloths deep in a crevice of laundry mountain.
Whatever you need instant gratification for, whether it’s routine bathroom linens, the latest best seller, or a kindle, wouldn’t a $100 Amazon gift card help?
I am joining other great bloggers in a giveaway! Here’s the scoop:
It is actually a little ironic that I am part of a Netflix giveaway! Listen to my Spin Sucks Inquisition and you’ll find out precisely how often I watch Netflix (hint: it rhymes with “hero”). I do, however, have an appreciation for Netflix. My 19-year-old daughter loves it, and my 16-year-old son too. I know, also, how much they are influencing the programming world with original productions like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.
Someday, it will be my time to enjoy binge-watching shows. For now, I still have to pay for my children’s enjoyment of it! That’s why I would love to win a $100 gift card like the one in this giveaway!
During our family’s recent visit to Disney World, we treated ourselves to some things we wanted (beignets, souvenirs, cocktails with light-up ice cubes and more) as well as things we needed (a hat for my husband when it started raining and sunscreen when it stopped raining).
A $500 gift card would have gone a long way toward helping us get more wants and needs, not to mention a place to lay our heads and some Mickey towels!
What would you do with $500 Disney dollars? Enter this giveaway and you may find yourself magically fulfilling some Disney dreams of your own!

“When I was little, I decided I would always do the things that scared me.”
This is what my daughter said to me after describing her recent experience going down the Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach, a slide with an almost perpendicular 120-foot slope. Here’s a picture:
Credit: Digital Disney World
And here’s a YouTube video of someone much braver than me doing the Summit Plummet.
When did she decide she would always do things that scared her? Sometime long before she found herself at the top of the Summit Plummet asking the cast member on duty, “Am I going to die on this thing?”
The conversation made me smile (BROADLY) because I want her to be brave.
I want her to “NEVER GIVE UP” and hear “YOU GOT THIS” in her head, all the time, no matter which challenges she faces.
Thanks to Momentum Jewelry, I have an opportunity to spread some “NEVER GIVE UP” and “YOU GOT THIS” #sharetheSPARK sentiment among the people I admire, those who demonstrate these attributes or the ones who I feel need just a bit of encouragement!
I could easily name 30 people off the top of my head who have a #sharetheSPARK vibe going on. The challenge is I only have two #sharetheSPARK Motivate™ wraps to give away. One of them is going to a woman who is a cancer survivor, who is putting together a “Triathlon” that will benefit Moffitt Cancer Center (for details, click here — spaces are still available for the run/row/ride event!). The other one is going to have to find a home over the next few weeks.
Although I don’t have unlimited wraps to give away, I do have PicMonkey, social media, and the ability to share unlimited encouragement!
Therefore, look for me to be sharing these images and tagging awesome people over the next few weeks!
Yes, I smiled when my daughter told me how determined she was to face her fears! I smile when so many people I know, in real life and online:
Set (and achieve) ambitious goals
Encourage people around them who are discouraged
Stand up for what is right, even when it is unpopular to do so
Persist in the face of adversity
Support others rather than tear down
This list, of course, could go on and on. What would you add? Who has embodied these qualities to you?
Tenley went to the summit, took the plummet, and proved to herself that she is stronger than her fears.
What will you refuse to give up on today? How can you #sharetheSPARK of encouragement?
By the way, Momentum Jewelry makes beautiful athletic and inspired jewelry in addition to the wraps. I love my Foot Notes™ (shoe tags) from Momentum which honor my I Run For relationship with Gareth. NOTE: This post is a response to a Mama Kat Writing prompt: Write about something your child said that made you smile.
Wayne asked me to pick up several items for dinner, and sent this list:
I dutifully picked up the items I saw on the list, rechecking it several times, before picking my son up from an event and returning home. Several hours later, Wayne, who had been out, called before returning home to say “let’s go over the ingredients one more time” before he made the pasta recipe he had planned.
Him: “Did you get the butter?”
Me: The butter? That wasn’t on the list.
Him: I’m pretty sure I put it on the list.
Me (after glancing at the list): Oh no, it was on the list.
Fortunately, he had an opportunity to pick up the butter at the last moment, saving our menu from missing a critical ingredient (hooray!)
Sometimes, there are things on our lists that we have inadvertently neglected to do, and we are able to save check those things off before losing the opportunity.
I know that your decisions about your family’s finances are personal and challenging. If you’re anything like us, you are juggling the expenses of necessities while trying to squeeze in some wants that make everyone happy!
I also know that it is easy for myths and misconceptions to exist about a program like Florida Prepaid. For example, many Floridians think it is not possible to use a prepaid plan at an out-of-state or private college. Fortunately, that’s not true.
Although prepaid plans are designed to be used at Florida Colleges or State Universities, the value of the plans can be used at other schools nationwide. Whether you pick a public, private, in-state or out-of-state school, the program pays the same as they would pay a Florida School. Our family is proof, because Tenley has used Florida Prepaid at Valdosta State University in Georgia!

To sweeten the pot, I am offering a $10 gift card to Amazon, Starbucks, or Target (winner’s choice) to one of my readers who helps get the word out! The winner also gets a bonus green pen imbued with all kinds of optimistic mojo :-).
By the time I was holding this cup of awesome in my cold hands this morning, I had done some work, checked out of a hotel, and been on a safari! My hotel room didn’t have a coffee maker, it was too cold to venture over to the restaurant just for coffee, and I had a Disney Fastpass for the Kilimajaro Safari which was coming close to expiring.
Now, making coffee is usually among the VERY FIRST things I do every day, so the fact that I was almost three hours into the day and had not managed to get coffee was highly unusual. It sure did make me appreciate finally getting my morning fix!
Enter this giveaway and you can get your morning fixes to the tune of $200 from Starbucks in the form of a gift card!
I’ve teamed up with some blogger friends to give you the chance to win a prize you’re going to love — a $200 Starbucks Gift Card!

What comes to mind when you think of “power generation”? Frankly, I usually just think of power generation when it doesn’t work following a thunderstorm or some other technical problem.
I have had more opportunities than usual to think about power generation lately.
My friend Linda Pulley Freeman initiated and implement the #KidPower2015 project, which utilized bicycle generators to make power. The project didn’t just use bicycle generators to make power; it used the process to help children of incarcerated parents bond with their parents and it helped residents of Cambodia have power at the Light of Future School.

Another friend has been talking about the potential of extremely large scale batteries. These batteries could have a role in replacing traditional power supplies in towns and cities, saving money and reducing adverse environmental effects. (Here’s an article about these batteries and here’s one more link; I don’t pretend to understand it all!).
When I go to Cape Canaveral next week to observe the launch of the Orbital ATK OA-4, I anticipate learning about the power required to launch a space station re-supply shipment.
Power for Education
As the Open Enrollment Period for the Florida Prepaid Tuition Program nears its mid-point, I am writing to remind you that you have the power to make a difference for the future of a child in your life, by purchasing a Florida Prepaid Tuition Plan for them.
Florida Prepaid offers five distinct ways to superpower your child’s future. They all include tuition and most fees at either one of 28 Florida Colleges or 12 State Universities. Though each option is designed to be used at a Florida College or State University, the amount covered by the plan can also be applied to other schools nationwide. For example, my daughter’s Florida Prepaid plan benefits are applied to her tuition at Valdosta State University, which charges in-state tuition for Florida residents despite being in Georgia.
A Power Boost Via A Giveaway!
I am excited to have these awesome Florida Prepaid goodies to share with one fortunate reader. The backpack, tshirt, water bottle, pencil pouch, and Florida Prepaid pen are all reminders of the huge impact planning ahead can have on a child’s life! (The Green Pen is a bonus and the only one among the Florida Prepaid Believer Bloggers!)
For a chance to win this Florida Prepaid swag, please comment below by noon ET on December 11. I will choose a winner from among the comments using random.org (please make sure I have your email address so I can reach you. This giveaway is limited to United States residents.)
With the right kind of power now, a child in your life can soar high into a promising future!

This post was inspired by a Mama Kat Writing Prompt: Write a blog post inspired by the word “power.”
When I went to Miami Beach as part of #ChevyPlayMiami, my son and I made several side trips in addition to the main event, the Miami International Auto Show. For example, we went to the Miami Auto Museum, where we saw cars from a broad span of decades. Linking back to the Chevrolet part of my trip, we saw this memory:
Chevrolet’s current motto is “Find New Roads,” and those three words mirror much of my experience as part of this group:
Parent of a Teen Driver Finding New Roads
Since I have a 19-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son, our lives as a family have been engaged in the “learning to drive” process for the past four years or so. Being the parent of a teen driver introduces a multitude of questions for a parent, foremost among them being: How will my son or daughter remain safe?
Stephen from Chevrolet explained the features the company is incorporating to enhance safety for new drivers:
Exploring New Roads Is About More Than Driving
In addition to a demonstration of the 2016 Suburban and a private tour of the Auto Show, we participated in a session of Style Trends for Fall from Jenny a/k/a MiamiStyleMom.
We interacted with Ryan Hall of #CodeFeverMiami to jump start our enthusiasm for the digital world.
We also spent time with Vanessa James, a fireplug of an individual (and Florida State Seminole hooray!) who empowered each of us to make our unique mark in a crowded internet world.
(Thank you Surfcomber for a gorgeous setting for our day of fashion, coding, cars, and FUN!)
New Roads Introduce You to New People
I literally took a new (to me) road for this trip. Although I am a lifelong Floridian and traveled much of the state with Healthy Kids, I had never been to Miami Beach! In addition to discovering a beautiful part of my home state, I met bloggers and influencers who were new to me. My friend Nicole and I already know each other well from our work as Shot at Life Champion Leaders:
Everyone else, though, was completely new and fresh! It was so exciting for this North Floridian to meet people who see the world through the South Florida filter; by the end of two days I had many new friends and had made special new connections.
Taty of @CoolChillMom and I connected prior to the event and worked with Ana of @MiamiMommySavings on a ticket giveaway. Those tickets have been given to the winners already (congrats @sal0820!) but there’s an opportunity to win more tickets by participating in a Twitter Chat! (there’s plenty of time to get to the show; it doesn’t end until November 16!).
Four pairs of tickets (as well as Chevy gift bags) will be up for grabs at the Twitter party!

My son, Wayne, says some version of “I know you don’t care” pretty much every time he tries to explain some fascinating feature of a sports car or takes the long way in a parking lot because, “look it’s a [insert make and model of some AMAZING (to him) car here]”!!
While it is not true that I don’t care, it is true that I don’t speak an advanced form of “car.” I am excited to get a crash course (pun slightly intended) at the Miami International Auto Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center as an ambassador for #ChevyPlay!
Chevrolets From Old to New
In order to warm up for the Auto Show, I visited one of our local Dale Earnhardt Jr locations today and got up close and personal with one Chevrolet which was born before me and one recent model.
I wonder what stories this ’57 BelAir could tell!
In addition to admiring the pristine ’57 BelAir, I took a test drive in a 2015 Malibu LTZ. I’ll bet whoever owned that BelAir first could not have dreamed they would be able to start their car with a press of a button, from the comfort of their home, and have it ready to depart by the time they arrived in the driver’s seat!
Note: Thank you to Richard Burkart, Client Advisor at Dale Earnhardt Jr, for his help!
More To Come At The Miami Auto Show!
If you will be in Miami November 6-15, make plans to visit the Miami International Auto Show! Details are available via this link. In addition, you can learn more by visiting Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
I am also excited about the November 12 Twitter Chat at 7 p.m. ET for #ChevyPlay! This will be another opportunity to win show tickets and prizes!!
This will be my first Auto Show since the Detroit Auto Show in 1994! That was before social media, before I had kids, before this 21st Century had begun! I can’t wait to participate in this project. My son will be joining me for the public parts of the show, and I am thinking we can zoom to a more mutually shared joy of all things automotive by sharing time together at this event!
I will receive compensation in exchange for participation in this campaign. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.
